Thank you, Sonmi, and to you a happy new year. Though I’ve oft wondered why we start a “new year” in the middle of winter’s death hold. Why not in the spring?

True, it should really be the Spring equinox, when life is burgeoning, and there’s more likelihood of happy faces and hopeful eyes rather than at the beginning of January when many people feel low and are putting up with truly awful weather. I blame the ‘powers that be’ for being absolute gormless morons.
For myself, the real new year is every birthday that falls, for that truly is the beginning of one for me from the day I was born (in this century/dimension/galaxy/packet of crisps). It is more of a new year than the 1st of January for sure. nods a great deal. Not that I do not celebrate at this time of year, as you can see, but it doesn’t make so much sense to mine eyes.

Let me get this right. If we move the start of the New Year to the spring equinox, then March 20th. becomes January 1st. What worries me is that we lose 11 weeks of time. I don’t think we can do it.

Happy New Year to you Sonmi and everyone on, in and under the cloud! I agree with Peter about the incomprehensible nature of the timing of this holiday. And I am with you, thinking it stems from a moronic decree of some sort. Perhaps it would be just as well to wish everyone their very own personal “Happy New Year!” on their birthday (rather than the usual “Hey, way to get born and keep it going!”

Boy. am I ever glad to see this! I’d thought you’d sworn off the New Year, made up your mind to not pay it any mind, and, to be honest, I was about ready to join you what with, having been born with a caul, all the things I saw, but wished I hadn’t. Happy New Year to you now that it has already started almost without me.
