"Professional reviewers read so many bad books in the course of duty that they get an unhealthy craving for arresting phrases.", “The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated.”, “Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music.”, Even through the darkest phase Be it thick or thin Always someone marches brave Here beneath my skin, Taken in by the delicate noise Knocked to the ground by the subtle thunder
“I crave your mouth, your voice, your hair.
Silent and starving, I prowl through the streets.
Bread does not nourish me, dawn disrupts me, all day
I hunt for the liquid measure of your steps.
I hunger for your sleek laugh,
your hands the color of a savage harvest,
hunger for the pale stones of your fingernails,
I want to eat your skin like a whole almond.
I want to eat the sunbeam flaring in your lovely body,
the sovereign nose of your arrogant face,
I want to eat the fleeting shade of your lashes,
and I pace around hungry, sniffing the twilight,
hunting for you, for your hot heart,
Like a puma in the barrens of Quitratue.”
― Pablo Neruda

Now you don’t want a caller with a withheld number saying that to you!

If you listen until the end of the poem…. you probably do.

“The Rue d’Auseil lay across a dark river bordered by precipitous brick blear-windowed warehouses and spanned by a ponderous bridge of dark stone. It was always shadowy along that river, as if the smoke of neighbouring factories shut out the sun perpetually. The river was also odorous with evil stenches which I have never smelled elsewhere, and which may some day help me to find it, since I should recognise them at once.”

“I saw him on a sleepless night when I was walking desperately to save my soul and my vision. My coming to New York had been a mistake; for whereas I had looked for poignant wonder and inspiration in the teeming labyrinths of ancient streets that twist endlessly from forgotten courts and squares and waterfronts to courts and squares and waterfronts equally forgotten, and in the Cyclopean modern towers and pinnacles that rise blackly Babylonian under waning moons, I had found instead only a sense of horror and oppression which threatened to master, paralyse, and annihilate me.”

Having missed the opportunity to comment on “The Essence – Simply the Best– now ammended” I shall sneak in a comment here.
For some unknown reason I do not receive notifications of new posts on any blog, I don’t know why, as I have pressed all the right buttons. So I have to “pop” in and then do a binge read of several posts. Better late than never, I suppose. This is not ideal and makes me feel like a technical idiot.
In terms of the challenge, I would never kill Joy, just hug her again and again – hopefully not to detah.
Sonmi, I just love your quirky style and intellect (gush, gush). It also provides a wonderful diversion from the gloom and doom that I post. I try keep my post varied without gratuitous gore and a bit of gosspip thrown in .
Bunny hugs to you ❤

That must be so frustrating tsk. I have noted myself that new posts often slip into the feed late, and so find I have to read back down the list to check if anyone has posted and I’ve missed it. This seems to apply mostly to people who do not have free blogs, but have shelled out for their own .org one rather than a .com affair. I still miss quite a lot anyway, purely through time restrictions. Every now and again I click through every blog I follow to keep up with them, and get rid of any that are no longer my cup of tea. noisily slurps some very pleasant tea, offers Emy a cup and sneaks a couple of vegan cream cakes onto the table.
Do not fear seeming a technical idiot, compared to sonmi you are most likely Bill Gates. laughs. Joy will sleep easy now too. As to your blog – I admire your tenacity! You are on the front line and we need that.
“Sonmi, I just love your quirky style and intellect ” – Thank you so much for saying so Emy beams and hugs back – I suspect sonmi and her Cloud are quite an irritation to some folks, but for those who remain…there is a whole world of smiles, virtual cartwheels, disturbing Fragments, heart wrenching poems, peaceful cloudy cushions and a smattering of laughter tucked in pockets here and there for them to enjoy (hopefully), and escape to. Like drugs – but free! No side effects (barring rib tickles) and no cold Turkey of course. (Cold Tofurkey perhaps.) ❤
