Waiting…
Anticipating the imminent void,
The space that will appear in the world
All too soon, where she once sat.
For she’s both here and not here now;
A being on the cusp of being.
Missed before she’s left me.
An aged soul, with love in her eyes still.
I kiss her forehead gently,
A tear rolls from me to she,
And she leans towards me
Wagging her tail.
The Long Goodbye

Metaphors of this and that, specifics as well combined with true passion…I rather like this a lot

Thanks Professor, I’m pleased you liked the wee thing, they are great, even when they get very old they’re still a puppy in a loved one’s eyes methinks.

Good to hear. Much like the best of humans, they retain their youthful exuberance and joy all their lives. My puppy is sixteen and a half years old.

It is a price we pay for love, a debt never paid in full.

Yes. And worth every single moment of the heartache I believe.

Extremely poignant – as if being there. If I can leave the world with love in my eyes it will all have been worth it, no matter when it may occur. H ❤

Yes, so true. Thank you Hariod, to inspire such love makes for special human beings too, such as yourself. ❤

You’ve just reminded me of Pippa, and how hard it was is, there is never a right moment.

Beautiful Jessie. Thank you, the music reminds me of the Portishead album – Dummy, a huge favourite of mine.

It reminds me of Nina Simone singing ‘I put a spell on you’.

Really beautiful, Sonmi. You’ve captured all of the varied emotions here for me. The way the moment is slipping away– the anticipation of loss… The most poignant for me is the wagging tail– the innocence that knows nothing of being on the cusp of being, and remains a cup overflowing, even to the end. It is so selfless and that is partly why I think the love of our canine friends is so profound. Because it asks so little, and yet is so abundant in return…

Thank you so much for your comment Michael. The innocence is all with our beloved furry ones, innocent love, without guile. The relationship we have with them is so singular. I’m glad it is only I, not her also, who has that anticipation.
