There’s a small tie-in to something of Esme’s too, here – Scare-less Crowing
Actually. . . I’ve decided to go wild and carry it over the fence to rest here a span . . .*bows, coughs and begins to recite. . . *
Scare-less Crowing
Once, under a time,
A figure was spied in the back meadows
Just over there.
A chaotic irregular thing.
It had eyes of glinting sea glass buttons,
A wayward curve to the parsnip nose;
The pale stretched torso stuffed, choked,
With a strange waxy straw.
Every tooth a tarnished, sharpened, penny dreadful.
Two mouldering earrings were pinned into approximate place.
One foot lingered in a bucket,
The other sat wedged within a 1960’s go-go boot.
Peeling patient patent.
A donkey jacketed ass.
The fancy flair of a foolish debonair.
Long loose Lycra clad legs drifted back and forth,
(The fourth and fifth to the third)
In a mockery of sentient movement.
Below the magnificent ruined brim of a rambunctious top hat,
A head sits draped in a flowing curled cascade;
The rusting scarlet of a faded foil party-wig
Flailing it’s singular, elderly neon strands in the wind.
All dressed up with no air to blow.
An oddity,….even in its field.
Gosh, that chap has some patience! I love both the scarecrow and the scare-less crow, Esme! The cloud is spewing beauty left, right and center today, my dear 😉

Why thank you kindly misses, I’m honoured you think so!
I wonder at such patience, it’s a gift, esme is far more slap-dash with her artistic endeavours.

This reminds me a little of an artist friend of mine from the eighties, a chap called Tom, who used to mould anatomical features in rubber and then paint them so as to appear lifelike. He was commissioned to produce 50 pairs of ape’s testicles for the film Greystoke. At the time he was renting a flat, in London, where he worked from, and had an awkward moment when the landlady knocked on his door and he was obliged to invite her in. She never said anything, but kept glancing at his makeshift workbench where there were lines of very lifelike testicle-laden scrotums. Anyway, I love your poem, particularly the last two killer lines, and the poignancy of being so ineffectual. H ❤

You have some cracking anecdotes Hariod, and this one is right up there on the mirthful scale, hahahahahaha.
I’m thrilled you love the poem too, it seems a long time since it first appeared, but I still like it as much as I did back then which is a good sign methinks smiles ❤

Absolutely delightful Esme!!! All of it! McKenzie AND Lady Esme, both exquisitely performed! ❤ 😉
And I believe I’ve seen MANY of those “Scaredcrows” and “Scare-less Crows” over here, running about, losing their straw hands, straw hats, and straw heads as Something Wicked This Way Comes and alas…

Incredible work! (Both of you.)
I like the dog in the background around 1.17. I’ve seen that look before. It’s: “Stop fooling around with whatever it is you’re doing and play with me. I won’t bother you yet, because I’m a dog, and I’m patient, but here in about an hour who knows what I’ll do.”

Ha, you’re spot on there, and thank you! I was just thinking of you and Geordie as I wrote my next post because you publish photos of him, (the latest being unfeasibly cute of course), and I’m introducing my latest furry friend upon the Cloud.
