A few snapshots I’ve taken of late. There are bees everywhere, it’s brilliant. All kinds too and for the first year Tree Bees too which look like mini bumble bees. I haven’t managed to get a shot of one of those yet, but I watch them a great deal. I am now a bee watcher officially. They like me and will come and land on my hand occasionally, being a delicate flower has its perks you know. laughs. The Elderflower tree has a nest with five baby Great Tits in it as well.

Thank you Kris, yes, that’s what I wanted from them, sun, air and more bees than ever, they like blue/purple flowers the very best and I’m pretty keen myself so it’s a good match, I’m glad you have lots as well!

Do you tell your bees of births, deaths and marriages as does my Celtic missus? I should add she also teaches themthe best foul language and the ways of the inconsiderate types to whom nature is a relic of the past. Splendid post, The Old Fool

Yes, I also tell them all the darkest secrets I have ever beeeeen trusted with and most of my own too, but they’re very good and keep it all under their pollen baskets. Honest guv. Bees are the foulest cursers I know barring woodlice, I blame Shirley (Blamey/Blimey!) entirely.

Beautiful, Esme. I’m not surprised to discover you harbor such a beautiful haven in your abode. I’m reminded of the story my wife told me about recently–the rediscovery of a blue bee (the Calamintha Bee) native to Florida that was thought lost. You have to dig a little to find a picture of it in its blue brilliance as many of the photos I found are of a poor deceased specimen on a skewer, but if you find the right page you’ll discover a bee with a brilliant blue coloring. Glad you are enjoying this lovely spring!

What a lovely present for me Michael, a new, blue bee and not lost aftter all. Humans love skewering things, they’re so unpleasant so often. Not that keen to being skewered themselves mind you, tsk.
It is beautiful, parts of the Cloud, and there are huge sunflowers, courgettes and more to come if the weather holds. I hope you and the misses are also enjoying the best of life you can find at present ❤

As a former apiarist, I have a tremendous respect for bees. Nowadays, they are pestiferous flying insubordinates on a kamikaze mission. But that’s just how I see things in a wily pandemic. What was erstwhile up is now down and vice versa.
But dear Esme of the clouds, how I have missed you…

Very dear Esme,
As a precautionary measure the island has been wrapped in cellophane, but that’s just for starters: an iron lid is in the works and that ought to block out viruses, bits of lint, sunlight, and American tourists; naturally, we will all die (it’s already baked into the sticky buns)… but not necessarily of a virulent and venturesome virus. Unprecedented times indeed. I have nominated myself as goodwill ambassador for the Caribbean and am available for remote lectures (from an undisclosed bunker) on topics ranging from pandemic sleepwear to government malfeasance masquerading as sound public policy.

I should have guessed you’d hold such a prominent position with good Will (Shakespeare’s bones of course). Unprecedented — if only un-Presidented too! Lint makes fine (fuzzy) felt and we all need to feel fine at present so I shall command all clothes dryers to be de-linted and have balls of the fluff sent to you by way of flying gerbils (the monkeys are revolting – you should see the state of their bedroom). I am flagging just now, has a large pennant stuck in her hair emblazoned with ‘Flagrantess’ upon it* as I have, hmm a virus! Indeed. I’m being tested tomorrow to see if it is the evil lurgy at large, if so I shall bequeath you the Cloud and force all my followers upon you (with wine, roses and sticky buns of course and only when in the mood). It most likely is not, for I am, as you know, invincible, an elemental (my dear Watson), however the bugs are getting sneakier. In a nutshell (the size of her nutshells are impressive no?), I am abed and not very well. I would feel better for you writing and publishing an 800 page book of your prose in the next 48 hours. I know I can rely on your nutshells.

Luckily, my magic spells cross international borders, squeeze between bee testicles, traverse impenetrable walls, and are more accurate than the GPS system in your average BMW. That said, you will be just fine. Naturally, I would not be able to fill your shoes (ruby slippers) as keeper of the cloud as I do not have your equipoise or bonhomie; moreover, I do not wear fascinators nor headbands (unless the ritual of the day calls for it).
By the great powers that be (visible and otherwise), I command you to a speedy recovery.

Your spell worked! (I never doubted it for a second mind), the result is negative, there’s a 40% chance of it being wrong, but I’m starting to feel better anyway so I’m beating whatever it is. I was severely away with the fairies, and they all have truly smelly socks so I’m glad to be returning to the land of the mostly living. Thank you Dear Prospero. x

Speaking of modest, our garden blooms are finding more beezeries than we’ve enjoyed in many a season. The bumblers favor the lamb ears…err…lamb’s ears…er…lambs’ ears here. 🙂

I saved a bee last night. He was caught by the door, knocked out but twitching, so up I scooped him, onto a yoghurt lid and gently righted him from flat on his back to upright. I could feel his quiet buzzing through the foil material. I waited and after a while I offered the end of a wooden paint brush to see if he fancied a-crawling up it. He felt it some, then grasped away. Out to the garden we went and I left him on the camelia bush. They’re such beautiful creatures. This was a mini bumble mind, but honey bees have their charm too. The fuzzier the cuter it seems, yes? I’m pleased your blooms are home to so many bumblers Bill.

I rescue all flummoxed earthworms who must cross a sidewalk. A concrete crossover is not healthy for earthworms and other living things.
And fuzzy worms are also cuter, it also seems.
And so, a wonderful tiffin was enjoyed by all. Good bumbling to all and each!
