"I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass."-David Lee Roth, "People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out- but when the darkness sets in- their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within." -Elisabeth Kuble, "People think that I must be a very strange person. This is not correct. I have the heart of a small boy. It is in a glass jar on my desk."-Stephen King, Glittering Glass, Judith Schaechter, There's somethin' narrrsty in the woodshed
Judith Schaechter works in stained glass and creates works of such wonder they take my breath away. The colours and layout are reminiscent of intricate stained glass church windows, but Judith is an atheist, and has taken the techniques and run fast and furiously with them, veering from the traditional religious parables and images, whilst connecting them at the same time to construct her own unique parables. Some have me in mind of Hieronymus Bosch in technicolour. Here is a link to her website – Judith Schaechter – I recommend a look because I couldn’t list all of her works – it was hard enough narrowing them down to the huge amount I have chosen – and they are all well worth a gander. I also encourage that you click on the pictures to embiggen them, so as to see the details in all their glory.

You are most welcome Donzo. They must be quite something in real life too.

Powerful and thought-provoking statements indeed~! The sort of works that should be more widely known …

Hello Argus, and welcome to the Cloud smiles. I’m glad you like them, quite a tour de force aren’t they?! The web is so very vast, but trawling can pick up some gems.

Hi sonmi, glass art always amazes me – and the rich colors and details – wow lots of time went into these – some of them felt a bit dark to me personally – but you sure gave us so much variety and what a beautiful art media.
also, liked learning this new word: embiggen

Ha, I love ’embiggen’, it sounds like a magical word, something Harry Potter might say when casting a spell. nods
I always have trouble choosing photographs when I love someone’s art, so I give a large selection usually. I lean towards the darker side of things too usually, so I’m really keen on the more disturbing ones, but the colours…they really are magnificent.

I think it likely that I caught ’embiggen’ from you, Esme, somewhere along the way. Thank you for it, it’s a wonderful word.

Oh I’ve just seen this post in full, that’s where the weird glass paintings came from! I thought it was weird they’d be posted without any wordage or artist info, but it was the media file you commented on. I’m glad they have a proper home

Well, that makes two of us that have learnt something new lately… I’ve long known that it was possible to ‘click to embiggen’, but I hadn’t appreciated that, having done that, if the link were to the media item in the library (as opposed to directly to the image file itself) then WordPress.com presents it ‘within the theme’, with, it seems, its own comment section. Also, in that presentation, clicking on the image takes you to the next item in the library (which I find rather odd behaviour, personally).
The fact that two old-timer WPers have just recently discovered this feature (and been somewhat puzzled by it – well, it puzzled me, at least) suggests to me that maybe Something Has Changed…? I was talking to the Happiness Engineers about some, shall we say, less-than-ideal features of the media library a few weeks ago, and was promised it would be looked into, so, maybe so. I may have to do some digging. And, naturally, inserting my own brand of tuppences here and there along the way 😉

I think it’s a miracle I know as much as I already do, there will be vast areas of WP I know naught of, but you can always tell me when you find them out. falls about

I literally just sketched up stained glass in a drawing, talk about syncing. This is actual phenomenal. To be honest, trying to pick a favorite is quite difficult.
The birth of eve, and the specimens. I’d have to say.
