I hope this day isn’t as difficult as it most likely may be. You and your beautiful animal are in my thoughts, and I hope that you take the time, whenever you can, to think of all those special wonderful memories that only you two know about. Hugs, Harlon
It’s very painful, but she lived long and had the happiest of lives from the point when I rescued her aged two. I was with her at the end, and she went very peacefully. Thank you for those words Harlon, I do appreciate them, and the hugs too.
Hugs for you. It never is easier because they are “just a dog” or “just a cat”: They are integral parts of our lives and give us love, joy, precious memories. I cry with you, remembering various cats and dogs I was blessed to have in my life.
Oh thank you, that’s so true, and no, there’s no ‘just’ in it. If anyone were to use that word in relation to her I’d punch their face in. Really. accepts hugs and smiles.
Dogs are so much better than people. Dogs move into the next world and this world is gray, stormy, dreary, and damnably sad.
I shall mourn your loss Sonmi.
It’s probably not the right time and I don’t mean to diminish your grief — forgive me if that’s what I’ve done — but perhaps I might divert your mind but a moment. I’m somewhat of a stickler for details, having been trained by the KGB, CIA, NSA, MI6, and FBI I take special note of certain things and so I couldn’t help but notice the book.
You know who else shelters in the foothills of Southern Indiana, and who was raised in New Albany, (not born but raised) yes? Though the inspiration for the story has nothing to do with me, I assure you. Nor have I ever heard of the gal. But I do find it all interesting and couldn’t help but share this peculiarity. Maybe I should read the book.
Oh not at all, well spotted, I’d not noticed the book. Tis a good read, I do recommend it, and as you’re pretty much a native of the area, I think you’ll enjoy it all the more. It’s an area I’d like to visit one day, and is on my list with Utah, Austin, the Nevada desert and Oregon. Maybe sonmi will turn up on your doorstep with a spotted hankie tied to a stick looking for a vegan butty eventually. She’ll have a Cloud in her rucksack. smiles.
So sorry to hear Sonmi. My thoughts are with you; may they lift you upon the clouds to be closer to your dear friend. What a beautiful picture to remember her by. Hugs from us, A, Ms. Z and Benji.
So Sorry Sonmi, She looks like a real sweetheart too. Doggies are the best! Too bad they live longer in our hearts than in our lives. 16 years with Sonmi – that’s one lucky dog. ((hug))
Been there—done that. I, too, once was privileged.
The violence of separation dies slowly away but be warned—it never stops hurting.
The New Zealand cartoonist Murray Ball said of his creations to the effect that “…of all my characters only one was real, and that one was Horse (the cat) … who lives forever just beyond the horizons of my mind”.
“but be warned—it never stops hurting.” – Well that’s lifted me no end. Thank you Argus. No, I know you mean well, and I already am sure I’ll not be free of that pain for eternity. It won’t stop me rescuing another one mind you, they’re worth every drop of pain, and need homes and love. I thought by your picture you might be a dog person, or an animal one for sure. A cat named ‘Horse’ – I like that, and why not eh?
There’ll be another along soon, I have no doubts there. Note that I said another—not a replacement.
My own belief is that the companion chooses the human—and you’ll know when.
I also think that to continue the line is not (r) not any form of disrespect or ‘unfaithfulness’ to the previous companion. I think of it more as a salute …
Oh I heartily agree, I can’t imagine a life without a dog in it now, and you only really know when you meet each other that the bond is right. A salute, yes, testament to how fine a life you had together. I’ll drink to that raises a small Jack Daniels and smiles, sad, but suitably so.
Of course you will dearest sonmi, for love is eternal, horizon-less. Your beautiful girl’s eyes will always see you, and yours her.
