A day once dawned and it was beautiful, A troubled cure For a troubled mind, And if one day you should see me in the crowd Lend a hand and lift me To your place in the cloud, Said she hadn't heard the news Hadn't had the time to choose A way to lose But she believes, The blossoms came and they brought you Clouds left the sky And I knew the reason why, Time goes by from year to year And no one asks why I am standing here
A gentle, most beautiful song from one of the finest songwriters to ever grace Earth’s surface, and only 26 when he passed away.
(Thank you Professor Taboo for the nudge, nods, I don’t believe Nick ever wrote a poor song and should have been featured upon the Cloud long before now. – smiles)
When I first heard Nick Drake, his voice, lyrics, and acoustic guitar really moved me. Deeply. And I don’t typically love folk music, as a genre. Now, I guess I have a post-mortem man-crush on his music. Is that appropriate? 😮
But then I soon found out about his story and his battle with clinical major depression. I’ve confronted the reality of the neurological-hormonal disorder/disease firsthand as well as suicide. I realized it was just another deeper reason WHY I recognized the emotion behind the music. Passion is not only euphoric, it is painful sometimes, and in the words of Robert Frost: “The best way out is always through.” The trick is to not go “through” way too slow — the path to possible/probable suicide — or wallow in it, or way too fast when little/nothing is felt and unalive, ironically. Besides, most of the finer things in life are found in the smallest, must unexpected places.
So see… Nick Drake’s music inspires me to rattle off random psycho-analysis, offering me deeper felt appreciation for life’s kaliedoscope of human experience and emotion. And I have you Esme, at least in part, and Nick Drake to thank for that today! (heartfelt smile for you Madame)

“The best way out is always through.” – By the Gods that’s true. I know just what you mean about his life, and his battles. “most of the finer things in life are found in the smallest, must unexpected places.” – an excellent line Professor nods. I know his work so well and have done for so very long, that it takes me back decades when I listen to him. Moments in time preserved forever, encased in wreaths of nostalgia, only accessed by those precise notes and words, in that precise order. Thank you for the kind words Prof, all smiles accepted happily here upon the Cloud. beams one back at him.

A nice song choice Esme. I had the delight of watching ‘The Lobster’ which my local video store actually had. It was one of the most strange, hilarious, absurd, and mono-tone communicative movies ever. The loners out in the sticks being hunted so the pre-animal singles get more time- hah!
so many funnies 🙂

Thank you misses nods and smiles.
You saw it! Hahahahaha. It’s nuts, but good nuts. Some cracking lines in there too. I’m so glad you watched it. I’ve not been able to get ‘The Lady in the Van’ though I’ve been trying. It will appear in time.

Probably a little too much blood and killing for my liking, but the narration was superb and the obvious irrational storyline, well, yes.

You’re most welcome acflory. ‘Five Leaves Left’ is the best of the best album-wise so I recommend having a listen to a few songs from that one first.
