Scheherazade, also commonly Sheherazade (Russian: Шехераза́да, tr. Shekherazáda; IPA: [ʂɨxʲɪrɐˈzadə]), Op. 35, is a symphonic suite composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov in 1888 and based on One Thousand and One Nights, sometimes known as The Arabian Nights.
And it is quite beautiful.
Lay back, have the cogs stop whirring for a short span, and take a ride on this why don’t you . . .

“You’re so lucky, Esme.” – Ah . . . we’re all lucky in a variety of different fashions, I’m pretty sure I’d envy some of your life too – smiles and nods – especially the bits with Mr Whelk and his dodgy chum in eh? Hahahahaha. No, they’re quite a riot at times, and esme does enjoy their posts. I still haven’t stopped laughing at the original Olly Murs and his giant head one.

No it’s great craic, Esme. There’s a great blogger that use to love the Olly Murs skits too but she disappeared a while back. She was really good and one of my favourites on here… Ezekiel Fish.

It’s a pal (not dog food, though both Chum and Pal are indeed brand named tins of said stuff), a mate. Possibly even friend, (if they pass all the tests of fire and don’t make a show of you). I can tell he’s dodgy. Having a giant shell for a head was the first giveaway, but don’t tell him, I wouldn’t want to offend and he wears the top hat with aplomb (rather than a plumb — an oft made gaff by oiks in posh society).
Ezekiel Fish! Now there’s a name! Hahahahaha. It’s a shame when they disappear, those who float on top (sounds like poo, isn’t meant to).

A vile pedant- oh, dear me no, not me- might think you had not read the thousand and one nights, which does not have “a thousand and one tales”. Many tales took longer than one night, and the whole point was leaving a cliffhanger, so that the Sultan would not murder her, but see how the tale continued.

A regular listen during my teen years; the protagonist’s leitmotif is quite exquisite.

Indeed Hariod. I can’t get enough of that particular slice of notes, and the lead violinist’s capability for glissando when playing solo was something to behold. It’s a very tricky piece in parts. I love how it seems to make use of every single instrument one way or another; there’s a tambourine and a triangle in there! Hahahahahaha.

I enjoyed this, Esme, thank you. I was in concert band for 7 years when I was in school, so it brought back some good memories. I especially loved how specific segments of this suite took my mind to a place where I sensed tender love, compassion, tranquility, awe and hope, e.g., around the 10 and 43 minute markers. Also, I could detect that John Berry was influenced by various parts of this composition, based on some of the more inspiring musical moments in his movie scores.

I heart the heck out of Шехераза́да and tales and tales of tales and splendid music. My mother introduced my ears to classical music before I could talk; I’ve been grateful for that ever since. A full (not fulsome) disclaimer — I was born on her 26th birthday in the year of my eponym, to wit 1947. So I shall now remember all that with this mnemonic:

Good. I know you’ll listen to the lot, and it’s well worth it too. I have it on a play list set aside for just the right kind of moments. I’ve loved it since I was a child and can faithfully reproduce the whole piece with a comb and paper. I hope you like it sir.

Hello! I’m not disappointed with your recent post. Not at all. However, I want to be straight with you. You see, I’m not really a “music guy”. How could I possibly disagree?! Well from several angles actually, but none do I take and make into a disturbing shape, so all is well there you’ll be thrilled (to bits) to hear I’m sure.
