"Music in the soul can be heard by the universe."-Lao Tzu, "There's a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre, and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened."- D.A, How does the Man in the Moon cut his hair? This is more than a small amount special. The video is courtesy of NASA, and the best footage yet of Jupiter. It is exactly what you’d be seeing if you were on a spaceship going past the planet yourself! Incredible stuff. Also, the music that accompanies it is from the film ‘2001: A Space Odyssey – Jupiter Scene’, which is a very nice touch – nods
I’ve posted the video here, but ideally click the following link, because then it will fill your screen – you get far more of an experience there – https://vimeo.com/219993811
Prepare to be awed, for awed you shall be.
I leave you with a beautiful quote that sprang to mind as I contemplated the heavens;
“I was sat at the bottom of the garden a week ago, smoking a reflective cheroot, thinking about this and that – mostly that, and I just happened to glance at the night sky and I marvelled at the millions of stars glistening like pieces of quicksilver thrown carelessly onto black velvet. In awe I watched the waxen moon ride across the zenith of the heavens like an amber chariot towards the void of infinite space wherein the tethered bolts of Jupiter and Mars hang forever in their orbital majesty; and as I looked at all this, I thought, ‘I must put a roof on this lavatory.”-Les Dawson
Marvellous; really beautiful; counter-rotating cloud bands:
Love the ‘eclipse’ tag! 🙂

A long way back, my heart goes out to those guys. It shows some Americans have the ‘right stuff’ as Lincoln said. Also, the music is very disturbing in a bad way. Also, you dropped me, and won’t be forgiven 🙂

A Tanka eh? Very nice – more discipline involved than Esme can ever muster I suspect. Thank you for the sterling effort Ben, I particularly like the ‘rabid’ part. – laughs and bows, palms together

By Jupiter indeed, Esme. Am awestruck by its beauty, but also in awe that you should have such a very stunning quotation in your head and that you could put your hand on it and so post it here. Sort of thing that makes you laugh on the inside right down to your toe nails and then back up to your hair roots. Les Dawson juxta Jupiter – who’d’ve thought it.

Hahahahaha, I love Les Dawson, and remember seeing him perform said quote on the televison many moons ago. It killed me then, it kills me still. I’m glad it gave you a belly laugh as well Tish. Thanks for stopping by.

Good, you should see more of yourself, hahahaha.
Laughter and fun are a core element of the Cloud; we need light in this life of ours — Esme knows where it is and doles it out regularly. – beams

Mesmerizing … especially accompanied by this music.
Val looking up to the heavens in absolute awe. Wishing that she had paid attention in earlier years… yet so grateful to others, and especially Esme for preserving and sharing the vision. 🙏

To quote Copernicus “The massive bulk of the earth does indeed shrink to insignificance in comparison with the size of the heavens.” In as much as – We should look up more often laughs
Very happy you enjoyed the ride Val.

Stunning! I know Jupiter is a gas giant, so I know all those amazing shapes aren’t solid but…what in heaven’s name are those white disks, almost equidistantly spaced around the equator [?] Rhetorical but if anyone knows I’d be grateful!
Thanks for this Esme. It was sublime.
And thanks also for the best dunny joke I’ve ever read. 😀

Oh those are the Disco Domes. Every third Saturday in the month there’s a massive rave/disco across Jupiter. They won’t let just anyone in, but I know someone on the door, so you’ll be fine winks.
Sublime – yes! And you’re welcome, if there’s one thing Esme can do well, it is toilet humour.

Jupiter! I was planning a trip there. Do you think I should pack a sweater? I hear you really get gouged if you stay at one of the big hotels. I’m thinking of staying at Ganymede. It’s a bed and breakfast (breakfast–if you like hot coals). I used Chipmunk for flight info and couldn’t be happier with them (disclaimer, I do get a small recompense–encrusted bits of sesame seed–from the company for making fawning statements about their stellar services). I’ll be back in 2037. Don’t wait up for me.
Faithfully yours,
Prospero

Hot pants. Preferably with sequins (see Meeka’s outfit in above comment), either those or a pair of these
Ganymede is rated well on Lonely Planet, though Trip Advisor seems to indicate using any electric blankets provided leads to a sorry end. I’ll catch you at the Amalthea Arms near the Pole in 2030 as that’s when the Helium Olympics are being held. It’ll leave you breathless!

From Wikipedia: Hotpants, hot pants, or booty shorts describe extremely short shorts, which may be worn by women and, to a lesser extent, by men (unless you are Chuck Norris–ed.).
I think Chuck Norris style hot pants would do well on Ganymede (with the cowboy boots).
For the rest of us, this educational video explains it all.
My retinues, experts in cryogenics, will be bringing liquid helium with them. Jupiter can get pretty hot in the summer (see above video).

Those were the fastest 3 minutes of all time. Marvels swirling like fluid marbles, that’s what I saw. Halfway through all time (let’s say 1:28), a surreal mercurial line of swirls appears at what I shall call North by Northwest — but may be I was looking down at the lavatory floor. Perhaps I was falling for a little Les Dawson, less or more or less. 🙂

I find myself just blown away by the technology that allows us to take that trip in our own abodes/Clouds. It moves so fast such tech, mayhaps we’ll be on Jupiter itself blogging away in another ten years time eh?!

Hey,
I nominated you for the Unique Blogger award because I dig your stuff.
The “unique” part of this thing definitely suits your blog.
If you want to look at the guidelines for it, check out my post.

As you will have by now seen I missed my blog on your winners list. This is mostly because I used to be Sonmi Cloud, but then changed skin, wings, ears and toes and became Esme Cloud instead a couple of years ago. So I don’t recognise myself in my blog link hahahahaha.
I have said so there, but I shall do so again here – Thank you in spades, it’s an honour, more-so to be presented an award by someone I think has a brilliant blog themselves, than some random stranger who likes Clouds. Those who have known me a while know I don’t do the ‘pass it along’ thing with awards, or anything else, but I do sometimes have an award ceremony here upon the Cloud called . . . The Cloudies, of course –
https://sonmicloud.wordpress.com/2015/01/18/the-cloudies-2014-2015/
there’s every chance of another one appearing soon (there’s been a Pantomime too in the past), and you will most definitely feature, whether you like it or not. nods and beams a smile at him with teeth and everything (but mostly teeth)

I completely understand! After doing one of these, I might wait a little while before doing another pass it along style thing.
I look forward to The Cloudies
