The Am

I Am.

Am is I.

All I shall ever know is Am;

Before Am is a mirage dependent on others’ testimony,

Ahead of Am nothing reigns beyond faith and fantasy.

The whole worth of any potential tomorrow,

Any subsequent existence as Am,

Is lightly pinned to plaster;

Its full measure and weight

Held in place by a single flat-headed pin,

 Labelled HOPE, beggared by belief.

The only true certainty of every new breath is Am.

Make of this what you can.
