“Humour and patience will always win the hearts and minds of those who either seek understanding, or lack the intrinsic knowledge of matters one feels passionate about, over and above scorn and frustration; no matter how justified one feels employing such measures.” – The Cloud.
Humour and patience won the vote for women didn’t it? 🙂

Well scorn sure as hell didn’t. And yes, I’m sure they had humour, I’m sure you’d have to have it to be that determined. And it takes patience to go out day after day and be ridiculed in the streets. Frustration can be useful, and was there without doubt too, but it depends who it’s married to. That makes a huge difference. smiles*

I have just copied and printed this Cloud quote so as to attach it to my monitor base. I never normally would do that kind of thing, and am certainly not one for sticking words of wisdom all around the place here at home (naff) – but your words touch me greatly, and they come from somewhere uniquely special I feel. Also, they teach me something I need to learn. Through my own stupidity, I found myself head down in something of a cesspit the other day, and I need to be much more careful not to let it happen again. The Cloud’s words will help, as they shall be there before my eyes each day. Thankyou Esme. H ❤

You’re welcome Hariod. Glad to lend a helping hand up, out and onwards on a different path, one without poo-pits for a start – smiles – None are perfect. – nods ❤

Hariod, Tubularsock recommends a pair of expensive Gucci Rubber boots for those occasions. They are very stylish and truly makes one feel “special”! Tubularsock believes they happen to be on sale right now at Harrids for £1800. Pretty good deal.
Sure, you can’t pin them on your computer but you could put them on a festive little shelf in eyeshot of your computer.
Tubularsock, being in California (out West), has high-steppin’ shit kicken’ boots but the shit in the U.S. seems to be just a bit higher.
Good luck and hope things improve.

You are too kind Tubular one, and I am greatly touched by your thoughtful comment and advice. I tend no longer to patronise Harriods after they got a little snooty in rejecting the entire contents of my piggy bank as a down payment on some thigh-length waders, with more pennies and thruppenny bits to follow – all on the trust of a handshake on my part, you understand. In any case, they would not have sufficed as protection in my recent faux-pas, as I entered the debacle, heedlessly, not heed first as they say in Scotland, but head first.

Humor and patience and anger and frustration and perseverance and determination and thoughtfulness and confidence and a million other things are needed and found in varying amounts in every passionate person fighting for something that matters.

Playing to our strengths is also important, and recognising there is more than one path to take if the present one gleans little progress too.

True, but when multiple paths lead to dead-ends, exasperation is found and strength is drained.

I know. I really do.
It’s just something worth thinking about, and works well I find.

MMJ ……… May Tubularsock suggest a simple grenade? They are very effective and prove often to be a very direct way to clear away obstacles that are insistent.
A word to the wise, once you pull the pin you’ve got about five seconds …… once you decide don’t hesitate.

Hah! I don’t know that I am ready to handle grenades yet, but I’ll keep your advice in mind. Thanks. 🙂

MMJ, Tubularsock does have to admit it’s an acquired taste for sure but so handy when one wishes to put a dent in a dialog. Cheers.

As ever Esme, you possess a most gifted touch of carefully selected appropriate words. I echo Hariod’s sentiments as he is gifted in pure writing as you are.
Thank you Esme. This is why I come here. warm smile

You’re welcome Professor. It also is a two way street, for both the pupil and the teacher, and Hariod acknowledges this too.

Esme, be careful with terms like “will always win the hearts”. Sometime the heartless act brings about a more profound change ….. and that ain’t funny!
But knowing the Cloud is filled with compassion it is good to dwell on the positive, maybe!

Bear in mind I’m comparing two very specific forms of behaviour, not the whole gamut – scorn and frustration against humour and patience, because with many adults teaching them a new concept is much like teaching children; they respond better to patience and humour rather than they do to scorn meted out through frustration. I watch it happening all the time in many places from many people. I’m offering a possible alternative way to try to communicate. And those who wish to learn should also consider it. This is not to say I do not have plenty of teeth, and they’re real sharp, but knowing when to employ them is important.
Anyway once again, it’s something worth thinking about if your current methods aren’t reaching those you wish them to. If you aren’t bothered in the first place whether they reach them or not, that’s certainly down to the individual, sometimes we only have the energy and time to tell people to go and find out the answers which they seek themselves, and that’s fair enough.
Thanks for the words tubular. smiles

I have the same problem often, my brain has days off and I have to wait for it to come back home again from all the wandering off to distant climes and dimensions it does.

Well said, Esme. Scorn and frustration have a tendency to hit like a one-two combination and leave a person smarting a bit. The key here is the willing part. Without it communication is truly difficult. But to your point, if the other party isn’t willing to see another point of view, then at the very least the patience and humor should leave things on even standing. I’ve pretty much been called a fool to my face on various occasions– of which I am very proud of course, as it means I do my own thinking from time to time– but the response of patience worked wonders. By the time the other party finished talking, I think they’d forgotten entirely what they were going on about! Ha!
