Firstly I give you . . .
All Things Sweet and Painful
That is the title of the latest collection of art made by Ronit Baranga. Here’s a selection of his work. I found them only last night and I have to say I am as wild as a wild creature gets about all the pieces! They are so far up my street the sun doesn’t even shine on them. The creativity and imagination involved, twinned with skill . . . by gum.
I have included some pieces from previous collections as well that caught my eye. If only I had the coinage to procure one for the Cloud! Imagine them with sticky buns! Oh the tea party we would have . . . Enjoy . . . and keep ya fingers off!
This one is my favourite. Do you like any of them? I’m curious.
Then again, this one’s an absolute cracker!
Come to mamma?
Getting a tad more disturbing, as if that were possible.
Open mouths are a big thing for this guy, and they work so well.
Now onto a different artist who has made a piece of work that I do own and would also be described by some as making disturbing art. Her creations are beautiful, bold, sweary, and shout to the skies! Little masterpieces.
This way round for when the mother-in-law visits.
And which is Esme’s? Well at present I have the following little miss . . .
She looks so mischievous. Her thoughts show on her belly. She stands 7″ or 18cm high and is right at home. She’s a Cloudster now. I have since found out you can request any wordage you wish on any of Allison’s pieces! I have already put two more orders in.
Here’s Allison’s Home page, you can see all her wares there, she also makes huge clay and metal sculptures. And unlike Ronit, whose pieces go for thousands of pounds, this cheeky bunch are perfectly affordable. I’m wild about them all. https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/AllisonTurnerDesigns
I should also add that I am not advertising for anyone here, I won’t do that for cash tis the devil’s work, I don’t know Ronit from a bag of nectarines and Alison knows not (yet) that she has been featured; for featured is the word.
Here is a related artist I collected upon my travels through the troposphere . . Johnson Tsang
And I’m sure you all remember Tom Noddy!
I’m still getting to grips with this horrendous new editor they have foisted upon us! So bear with if it all looks a tad higgledy of pig.
Bollocks! I get art stamped with it 😂

You’re most welcome Alchemist! There’s nothing like the feel of hand made pottery.

Yikes. Baranga’s work has a definite Clive-Barker-ish feel to it, at least to my eye. It’s interesting that they both use imagery of babies. Babies naturally provoke some degree of anxiety in humans because of their vulnerability. The “knowing” expressions on Turner’s pieces are also disquieting because babies aren’t supposed to have such expressions, except by accident. Clearly they’ve both given some thought to psychology.
Baranga’s carnivorous tea sets disquiet my British soul. One should not be made to feel at risk of being devoured by one’s own confectionery.
Thanks for featuring. I didn’t know you were into this kind of thing.

I have fingers in many pies. Hahahahaha. I’m an artist as well as a writer, this place has been primarily for writing however I’m big on inspiration and I believe writing can be instigated by other forms of art, especially art that’s off-centre. Imagine a story about a tea set that had fingers and teeth. Sounds like a Grimms fairy tale. I’m laughing at your soul and the tea set, I have a couple of beautiful vintage tea sets and will certainly look at them differently, perhaps more ‘creature-like’ after this.
I think the expressions are key with Allison yes, I absolutely love the look on my rabbit-eared girl. We don’t usually get to see them pull knowing faces but babies have a cracking range of unkowing, knowing looks. Here’s a couple I use to show my displeasure in emails sometimes, the slow zoom in on the first has me in fits:

Clive Barker. I read a few of his books many moons ago, he does horror and disquiet well. I’m glad you came and enjoyed this Infidel.

Marvellous! I was hooked straight off. I’ve been decorating the bathroom slow but sure for months, carefully choosing the right pieces to fit the theme and then saw my little mischievous bastard, who doesn’t fit the theme at all, and it made no difference, I had to have her and she moves from spot to spot calling the soap dish a bastard, or the back brush. Will you show me when you get one? I’d love to see your choice.

Spellbinding prestidigitation on the move, Esme. Ronit Baranga is fabulous. Every single work is splendidly balanced in the most surprising and delightful way, but I shall limit my response to that great ewer.
What a romp! The eyes on that ewer-head gaze sidelong at the severed hand in a most startling way, the side view suggested to me that the hand was gliding away mid gaze — a curious offhand look?

Off-hand! Hahahahaha, yes indeed, all cups and saucy saucers, I think they’re all a triumph of design, I wish they were more affordable mind you, but the main thing is that other artists will be inspired by the work and translate said inspiration into their own personal pottery language. I’m glad you enjoyed the picnic Bill!

Mercury-free cups too, methinks. Thank you for the marvelous hands-on piquenique, Esme.
“A triumph of design” — I agree full-handedly.
